Join Us

Sunday and Wednesday mornings raise the heartbeat of the Wheelers. Our year-round club runs bring riders together for routes across the beautiful Lincolnshire countryside.

Distances vary with the seasons, and rides often split into faster and steadier groups so everyone can find a pace that suits them. Expect ‘no drop’ rides, fabulous coffee and cake, friendly banter and peaceful riding on quiet country lanes.

Beyond the weekly runs, the Wheelers are about sport, adventure and connection. Members frequently arrange ‘away days’ or longer tours to different parts of the UK and Europe exploring new landscapes on two wheels. There’s also the opportunity to get involved in time trials, cyclocross, training sessions, a ‘Go Ride’ section for youngsters and special social events that make the club more than just a place to ride - it’s a place to belong.

Training Rides!

Vatternrundan 315km

Sweden's Vätternrundan is claimed to be the world's largest mass participation long distance sportive, run out of Motala, Sweden and traverses the banks of the gigantic Vattern lake in the middle of the country. No short cuts possible unless you want to swim across the lake !

At 315km, and 15,000 riders, the entire town is taken over for 48 hours with the first riders departing from 19:30pm on Friday 12th June and last starting around 05:30 on the Saturday. Early start riders have to negotiate the dark hours between 23:00 and 04:00 as they ride around the coast of the lake, on mostly closed roads in small groups. The only time limit is midnight on Saturday - regardless of when you start.

Theres plenty of stops en route with a wide variety of Swedish foods at the stops, from Swedish meatballs to blueberry soup through the night hours. The ride is all about eating and refuelling to keep going.

Three riders from Lincoln Wheelers are taking part - Tom, Graham and Adrian and in Adrian’s case this is the second time he has taken part. Logistics start on Thursday with flights from Heathrow to Arlanda and then on down to a hotel the Skavska area, about 90 minutes drive from the start area. With a late start time for the group of 20:40, there will be plenty of time to get down to the start village and assemble bikes for the big ride. Cycling through the night will require good bike lights and with no flashing lights permitted, multiple lights to get through the night.

After the ride is completed, all riders are kept in the village until six hours after they complete the ride to ensure they get some sleep, and before they are allowed to drive away, the police check that you have waited the obligatory six hours - and they don’t allow excuses - safety first.

For all of us, its all been about training in preparation, with multiple 200km rides in the UK, in Audax events and rides with club friends - and in some cases, a 300km Audax even thrown in.

It’s great way to test yourself riding at night in a (relatively) safe environment for those looking at longer Audax rides of 300km, 400km and longer.

Common Questions

  • As everyone arrives at the start point, , we set groups that match riders’ experience, fitness, training intentions, etc. to ensure that everyone gets what they want from the day.

  • No it’s not a requirement but we do run a well stocked and competitively priced clothing store.

  • Come on a few rides and push yourself! Maybe riding in a faster group on the way out and a slower group on the way back. You’ll find club members are quite active on virtual platforms like Zwift or Rouvy which are always good for keeping up fitness when the weather isn’t great and offer some excellent training plans.

  • A good start is to simply ask some of the more experienced riders - they will be pleased to help. We also have a member who is a professional bike fitter and can arrange a more thorough examination.

  • You will be more comfortable if you are able to match your bike to the terrain and type of ride. We welcome e-bikes and will ensure that all riders are fully included in the group.

  • We will normally break at about the half-way point for a coffee and cake stop. But if anyone needs to make another break, a quick shout will bring the group to a stop!

  • We operate a guaranteed ‘no drop’ policy: no-one gets left behind! If a rider is struggling for any reason, the group will slow down or assign a dedicated rider to ensure the slower rider gets home safely.

  • Yes, we have dedicated and suitably qualified ‘ride lead trainers’ and we are keen for everyone to develop their ski
